I love being a part of weddings for people that I know, because it makes it that much more special to be a witness. Kate is best friends with one of my best friends, and we were all in AmeriCorps together, which made it all the more fun. The setting was at Valley Crest Farm in New Jersey, with a reception area full of carved wooden animals and a ceremony site under a huge mother oak. The oak also had a few swings hung on its limbs, which was amazing for photo time.
Kate and Nate's ceremony was officiated by Kate's brother-in-law, with passages read by friends and the sweet couple exchanging their quiet vows to one another. As they proceeded out they took a moment to themselves as guests wandered back up the hill to refreshments in the hangar. We took a hot minute to snap some portraits before joining the crowd for the special dances and speeches. Afterwards the golden hour worked up some magic, while horses played in the paddocks and the sunset fired up the sky. Then it was off to dance amongst the carvings and twinkling lights and eat some pie. Happy to have been a part of such a sweet day for a generous, sweet happy couple.
